観光は楽しみを
目的とする旅行のことを指す。
語源は『易経』の、「国の光を観る。用て王に賓たるに利し」との一節による。
大正年間に、「tourism」の訳語として用いられるようになった。
ただし、学者や論者によって定義が違うこともある。
例えば、国土交通省『観光白書』では「宿泊旅行」を「観光」「兼観光」「家事・帰省」「業務」「その他」に分けている。
この解釈によると、家事・帰省、業務、その他を除いた旅行が「観光」である。
